It’s the best and easiest Mongolian Beef recipe I’ve come across. And I tried many until I found this one. I usually ‘tweak’ a recipe when I make it. But, this one requires no tweaking … It’s perfect. My husband loves it … and he’s a fussy eater. Thank you for this delightful recipe.

I’ve commented on this recipe already, but I’ve prepared it another half-dozen times since then and I never cease to be amazed… this Hunan Beef is my single favorite recipe I’ve ever cooked in any cuisine in the last several decades. I was going to qualify that against “special occasion” dishes that require a weekend to prep. But… y’know… I think I’d rather just have Hunan Beef again instead of those. It is my absolute favorite dish.

Possibly helpful hint for those in the Midwest or elsewhere without abundant produce markets… if you can’t find Holland chilis (I’ve never seen one in Chicago ever) and you can’t find Fresnos (we have these… sometimes… if I’m lucky and early), you can probably find red jalapenos at a Mexican market. Those are close to Fresnos, but a little meatier. Throw them in with all the other peppers instead of holding them back since they’re not thin-skinned like Fresnos. (Bill, does that sound correct?) Fresnos/Hollands are a touch hotter than Jalapenos, so you could compensate by substituting a couple hotter dried chilis like Xiao Mi Las for the usual Facing Heavens.

This was delicious and came together quickly on a weeknight with ingredients we had on hand. We subbed dobujiang for the oyster sauce; used black bean sauce in place of the fermented black beans and it still tasted great. Used vegetables that we had: red bell pepper, carrot, bok choy and it was so good! So thankful for your ratios and amazing sauces that always turn out mmmm good!
